These special varieties of mangoes are outperforming Dussehri, demand has increased from country to abroad

Lucknow/Anjali Singh Rajput: The existence of Dussehri mango, which is very much liked in Uttar Pradesh, is now in danger. Now many new varieties of colourful mangoes are going to overshadow its taste. These colourful mangoes of new varieties are being liked not only in the country but also abroad. People are becoming crazy about their taste. This is the reason that in the Malihabad belt where Dussehri mango originated, farmers and gardeners are now removing the Dussehri mango orchards and planting colourful mangoes. These colourful mangoes include mangoes like Sensation, Langra, Chaunsa, Tommy Atkins, Mallika, Arunika and Ambika.

These mangoes are durable
Mangoes like Sensation, Langda, Chaunsa, Tommy Atkins, Mallika, Arunika and Ambika are going to compete with Dussehri because they are durable. They can be easily stored for 15 to 20 days. They do not spoil quickly. Their taste is also much better than Dussehri and these mangoes are available in the market for Rs 100 to 200 per kg.

Some of their specialties are that their plants are small and give more production in less space. That is why in future these mangoes will outweigh Dussehri mangoes. This year also, there is more demand for these colourful mangoes in foreign countries instead of Dussehri.

Dussehri gardens are being cut continuously
A famous farmer of Malihabad, Aftab, told that all the people in Malihabad who earlier used to depend on Dussehri mango and used to grow it every year are now removing their Dussehri orchards and planting new varieties of mangoes, because they also know that only these mangoes will bring profit. Dussehri is not durable for a long time. It is sold cheap and in the last days it is sold at wholesale prices. Its taste is also not that good now. This is the reason why farmers and gardeners are now preferring to plant more coloured mangoes for their profit.
